It’s safe to say that I’ve made a name for myself on YouTube when it comes to my Big Brother designs. “BB,” as we fans call it (followed by the season’s number), is a semi-live reality game show that comes on CBS. Similar to Survivor, our American version often viewed as the official start of Summer. Since my MySpace gaming days, I’ve made several BB-related videos, most of which I’ve brought together right here. My designs incorporate concepts from the actual televised intros of the time, which were created by Design on the Fly near Los Angeles, California, as well as my own visual elements. Some of them feature the actual themes, while others feature covers that I’ve created.
Fantasy Big Brother USA Opening, 2007
Made with Ulead GIF Animator and edited with Windows Movie Maker, this was created fresh off the heels of BB8, one of the show’s most popular and controversial seasons.
Fantasy Big Brother 14: All-Stars, 2007
Made with Ulead GIF Animator and edited with Windows Movie Maker, this was created after re-watching all of BB7: All-Stars and also BB6, which is held as the gold-standard of the American Big Brother. This is one of five related videos.
MySpace Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Big Brother 1 Background Test, 2008
Made with Ulead GIF Animator and edited with Windows Movie Maker, this was created for my expected Real World/Road Rules Challenge and Big Brother crossover. This was also during the fall of MySpace; therefore the game never came to fruition. It would have been my final foray in ORG (online reality gaming).
MySpace Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Big Brother 1 Placeholder Test, 2008
Made with Ulead GIF Animator and edited with Windows Movie Maker, this intro utilized placeholders for where the player’s profile pictures would go. This and the above are part of five related videos.
MySpace Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Big Brother 1 Trailer, 2008
With animations created in Ulead GIF Animator, this was one of my first edits in Sony Vegas. This trailer was posted as a casting video in several of the ORG forums on MySpace. I had five seasons of the game planned, all of them having different twists in the game play. Try saying “Real World/Road Rules: Big Brother 4 Rules” ten times fast.
MySpace Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Big Brother 1 Tile Pattern, 2008
This was the updated version of the original RW/RR:BB1 design…
MySpace Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Big Brother 1 Alignment Test, 2008
…as well is its unused counterpart.
This is when the designs began to garner attention from the public. In 2009, HappyMe001 wanted me to design a trailer and intro for his ORG, and came back for me to design a casting video for season 2. The casting video was inspired by the ‘80s game show Press Your Luck. All of these videos were created in Sony Vegas 7, with help from Ulead GIF Animator.
After a long hiatus from designing BB, I came back to life when BB13, the “half all-stars” season, premiered in 2011. This spawned another design for an ORG at Blogspot.com. These were also the first videos in which I used a cover version of the catchy David Vanacore theme song.
In 2012, the show’s intro was tweaked, and the current theme song, used since BB6 in 2005, was remixed once again. Of course I followed suit! All of the below were created with Maxon Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.
*Nota Bene: This design was created while weathering Hurricane Isaac.
Two other versions of this exist, but I likely won’t make them public.
2013’s Big Brother 15 is almost unanimously viewed as the worst season in Big Brother history, possibly including the international versions as well. But despite the racism, vitriol and crappy outcome, I still managed to take nearly every American Big Brother intro and mash them together into this masterpiece, leading to another for a Minecraft game that was hosted by YouTuber pss817. The latter was my final free design for a client.
Those final two have led to countless requests for fan intros. I have declined them all.
